Iran ‘Pope’ focuses on people of color

Ehsan Abdipour’s new film ‘Pope’ with a focus on people of color is quite a different flick on silver screen in Iran.

The flick went into public release a few days back in select movie theaters in Iran, narrating the story of Iranian citizens with dark complexions living in the country’s south.

“The cardinal of Ghana or Nigeria is likely to be the next Pope and the Vatican leader, and this is likely to disrupt the life of Faraj family who are like the black-skinned Pope,” a brief synopsis for the flick read.

The tri-episodic flick set in southern Iranian city of Bushehr stars Toumaj Pourmorad, Hadis Chehreh-Pardaz and Leila Daman.

The director earlier told local media his sophomore cinematic work ‘Pope’ alludes to false assumptions of those who forget about their history and migrate to other countries at any cost.
